Suspension fails slowly, which is why so many drivers never notice. The car gets a little looser over the bumps, a little vaguer through a corner, and because it happens over years it feels normal. Usually the moment of realisation comes when the tyres wear out early or the car does not feel planted at highway speed.
Book this in if you have noticed
- check_circle A knock or clunk over speed humps and rough surfaces
- check_circle The car floats, wallows or keeps bouncing after a bump
- check_circle Tyres wearing on one edge rather than evenly across
- check_circle The steering feels vague or the car wanders on the highway
- check_circle The car sits visibly lower on one corner
No surprises on the bill
We will not begin work on your suspension until we have talked you through what it needs and you have agreed to go ahead. If we find something else once we are into the job, we stop and call you before doing anything further. Nothing lands on your bill that you have not approved.
How it works
Book it in
Call the workshop or send the form. Booking costs nothing and you are not committing to any work.
We inspect and photograph
We put the car up and look properly. You get high definition photos of anything we find, so you can see the worn part yourself rather than taking our word for it.
You get a quote
We quote the whole job before a spanner is turned, and we talk you through it. If we find something else once we are in there, we stop and call you before going any further.
We fix it and back it
The work is done by master technicians using parts matched to your car, and covered by our 30 day guarantee.
Worn dampers cost you in tyres before they cost you in comfort
A shock absorber does not hold the car up. The spring does that. The damper controls how the spring settles after it compresses. When it wears out, the wheel keeps oscillating after every bump, so the contact patch is repeatedly loaded and unloaded. That is what produces the cupped, scalloped wear pattern across a tyre. People replace the tyres, the pattern comes back, and the actual cause is still fitted to the car.
A knock is a specific part, not a general condition
Owners describe a knock over bumps as a suspension noise, but the fix depends entirely on which component has the play. A worn sway bar link sounds different to a perished control arm bush, which sounds different again to a failing strut mount or a loose ball joint. Each carries a very different cost. We put the car up, load each joint and find the one with movement, so you replace one part rather than a corner's worth.
Steering wear shows up as wandering, not as noise
Tie rod ends, idler arms and steering rack bushes wear in ways that rarely make a sound. What you notice instead is that the car needs constant small corrections to hold a lane, or that there is a dead spot in the middle of the steering. It is easy to blame alignment or tyre pressure. We check the steering joints for free play as part of any suspension inspection, because an alignment carried out on worn joints will not hold.

Inside the workshop
Not stock photos. This is the Buchanan Road workshop, our hoists and our technicians.
“Pedro and Iury provided a great experience from start to finish. I took my little “Apple Love” there, and even though I don’t know much about cars, they took the time to clearly explain every step of the process, both over WhatsApp and in person at the workshop, which made everything much less stressful and easier to understand. The service was quick, the pricing was fair, and they were also flexible with payment options, which really helped. Professional service, honest communication, and overall a very smooth experience. Definitely a workshop I’d come back to in the future.”
“We have a small car rental company and these legends are caring of our fleet. The workshop definitely have the best car servicing in Brisbane Northside, everything is done with transparency and only made after our approval. Really recommend!”

Common questions
Do shocks have to be replaced in pairs?
Yes, across an axle. Fitting a new damper on one side and leaving a worn one on the other gives the car uneven grip and braking balance, which is worse than replacing neither.
Do you do wheel alignments?
We do not carry out wheel alignments in house. We will diagnose and repair the worn components causing the problem, and let you know when an alignment is worth having done afterwards.
How long do shock absorbers last?
There is no fixed figure. Road surface, load and driving style matter more than age. A bounce test and a visual check for leaking oil at each service will tell you where yours are.
Can I keep driving with a knocking suspension?
It depends on the component. A worn sway bar link is a nuisance. A failing ball joint is a safety issue because it can separate. Have the noise identified before deciding to leave it.
Will new suspension fix my uneven tyre wear?
It will fix the cause. The existing tyres will keep the wear pattern they already have, so if they are badly scalloped they may still need replacing to get rid of the noise.
My car is lower on one side. Is that a spring?
Often, yes. A broken or sagging coil spring is a common cause and it is usually visible once the car is up on the hoist. It can also be a collapsed air suspension bag on cars fitted with one, or a seized damper. It is worth checking promptly because it changes how the car handles and wears the tyres unevenly.
