Viscosity is not the same thing as approval
Two oils can both read 5W30 on the front label and be entirely different products. Manufacturers publish approvals that cover additive content, ash levels and shear stability. A low ash oil is required on many modern diesels because a high ash oil clogs the particulate filter. Getting this wrong does not cause an immediate problem, which is exactly why it goes unnoticed until something expensive happens years later. We match the approval, not just the numbers.
Oil ages by time as well as by distance
A car that covers very few kilometres still needs its oil changed on schedule. Oil absorbs moisture and unburnt fuel, and the additive package depletes whether the car moves or not. Short trips are the worst case, because the engine never reaches full operating temperature long enough to drive that moisture back out. If your car does a lot of short runs, the calendar matters more than the odometer.
The inspection is the part that saves you money
While the car is up for an oil change we have the whole underside in front of us. That is the natural moment to spot a weeping seal, a perished bush, a split CV boot or a brake hose starting to crack. Finding those early is the difference between a small planned job and a large unplanned one. We include that inspection every time and we tell you what we find, including when the answer is that nothing needs doing.

Common questions
How often should I change my oil?
Follow the schedule for your specific model, and shorten it if you do mostly short suburban trips. We will look up the correct interval rather than applying a generic figure.
Is synthetic oil worth the extra cost?
For most modern engines a full synthetic is what the manufacturer specifies, not an upgrade. It holds up better at temperature and protects better on cold starts.
Can I just top it up instead?
Topping up replaces the volume but not the depleted additives or the contaminants already in there. It is fine between services, not instead of one.
Do you change the filter every time?
Yes. Reusing a filter puts the old trapped contaminants straight back into fresh oil, which defeats the point of changing it.
Will you check anything else while it is up?
Yes, and at no extra cost. Brakes, tyres, fluids, hoses, belts and the underbody all get looked at, and you get told what we find.
Does the oil light coming on mean I need an oil change?
No, and this is an important distinction. The red oil pressure light warns that pressure has dropped, which is a stop driving immediately situation. A yellow or amber service reminder is the one telling you an oil change is due. If the red light comes on, pull over and switch the engine off rather than driving to us.
