A fault code names a circuit, not a faulty part
This is the single most misunderstood thing about modern diagnostics. A code reading oxygen sensor circuit slow response does not mean the oxygen sensor is bad. It means the reading from that circuit is outside the expected range, which can be caused by an exhaust leak upstream, a fuel delivery problem, or a wiring fault, as easily as by the sensor itself. Reading the code takes a minute. Working out which of those it is takes skill, and it is what stops you paying for a part you did not need.
Intermittent faults need live data, not a static scan
The most frustrating faults are the ones that will not happen while the car is in the workshop. A static scan of a car that is currently behaving tells you very little. What helps is recording live data while the fault occurs, so you can see the exact moment a sensor drops out or a voltage sags. We can log the relevant parameters and go back through the recording rather than asking you to describe what the car did three days ago.
Parasitic drain is measurable
A battery that is flat every few mornings is usually blamed on the battery. Often the battery is fine and something is drawing current after the car is locked and asleep. That draw can be measured directly, then isolated circuit by circuit until the culprit is found. It is patient work rather than clever work, but it beats fitting a second new battery and watching it go flat as well.

Common questions
My light went off by itself. Do I still need it looked at?
Yes, ideally. The fault is stored in memory even after the light clears, so we can still read what happened. A light that clears itself usually comes back.
Can you read manufacturer specific codes?
Yes. Generic code readers only see emissions related faults. We use tools that read the manufacturer specific modules where most real faults actually live.
Do you clean or replace fuel injectors?
Both, depending on what the testing shows. We test delivery and spray pattern first so you are not paying to replace injectors that are working correctly.
Do you do diesel or DPF work?
No. Diesel specialist work and diesel particulate filter servicing are outside what we take on. We will tell you at the booking stage rather than after the car is here.
Do you supply and fit batteries?
We do not sell batteries. We will test the charging system and tell you honestly whether the battery is the problem or whether something is draining it.
Can a bad earth really cause all that?
Yes, and corroded earth points cause some of the strangest faults we see. When a circuit cannot find a clean path back it will borrow one through another circuit, so you get symptoms in places that seem unrelated, like indicators affecting the dash lights. Checking earths early saves a lot of chasing.
